Remember how do you usually find a book from the library book shelves? You write its call number on a small piece of paper, you slip it down in your pocket, sometimes in your wallet. When you are in the library, you search your left pocket, right pocket, take out your wallet, go through each of your wallet compartments, and !*#@$#$%, you left it on the table.

From today onwards, life is going to be different, you find a book in BookJetty, you noticed nine available locations, mouse over its library call number, click on SMS link, and you get an SMS like the one below. Go to the library, whip out your phone, and find that book.

SMS

No paper, no pencil, no frantic search, and environmentally friendly. :P

The SMS is made possible through integration with Twitter.com using Twitter API. You need to sign up for a free Twitter account, set your Twitter username in BookJetty, add BookJetty as your Twitter friend, and enable your Twitter SMS notification for direct messages.

I have yet to try out this new feature, but it looks really promising!

Most of the time I get my book availability information from BookJetty, before visiting the library and accessing their digital catalog at one of those computer terminals. Then I would memorise the library call number of the book, before hunting down the book.

With this new SMS feature, it would be extremely useful to peeps like me who can’t be bothered to use pen and paper.

Thanks Veron, you got a good memory, I’ll forget by the time I step into the library. :D

Herry,
I always wonder how twitter.com can really survive given free sms. I mean in Singapore it doesn’t sound cheap. Is it why ppl in Singapore doesn’t have such a free service ?

Fantastic idea and implementaton! But you might still need a librarian to help you locate that book. :)

@Deepak My pleasure to do something like this too.

@Peter Hm…I was asking that question as well, my bet, is there’s a way to make a direct SMS reply to Twitter. Probably when you are replying, they earn some percentage. There will be other online revenue from their site too, which overall I think should cover their expenses.

@Isaak LOL..absolutely..Once I couldn’t find a book for so long, I asked a librarian to help me, she found it in less than 30 seconds!

Hi Herry, I don’t know why my previous comment appeared all weird, but luckily I still had it on my dashboard, so here it is :)

hey thanks for dropping by. I totally love bookjetty, the combination search with amazon and NLB was what I’d been looking for. I have my own record for books that I’ve read at http://www.meexia.com/book, and I’m thinking to switch to bookjetty for that, but the main thing missing IMO is ability to add in reviews or personal notes to our book records (like anobii.com, which I also just found out a couple of weeks ago). I like bookjetty more than anobii for many reasons, mainly being the speed and easiness to add books into our records, and the amazon-NLB search. I love all the tooltips. I love the list of “on loan” and “not on loan” list of NLB libraries for each book (I wonder why NLB search doesn’t have this function? I hate it how I always need to click the list of the books one by one to see which libraries they are available at)

Anyway my comment is getting very wordy. What a great work that you’ve done. Thanks! :)

Hey Dioni, Thanks for your feedback.

I’m currently working on the cover view, and variations of list view, I’m also redesigning the book listing page to make it even more user friendly. This feature should be done up either by tomorrow.

Next I’ll look into the book ratings and reviews, it’s a feature that has been missing for ages. A lot of people has been asking me to put them in. No worries, akan datang (coming soon), I promise, cross my heart. :)

It’s great to have you on BookJetty btw.
